Well I went to Melbourne,
n’ got lost in slow songs,
followed my feet in worn boots.

I stayed for the weather,
n’ things I now can’t remember
and sort real life at its roots.

I spent my days on the railway,
crossed paths with gypsies
who talked me down on my price.

They said, “life is for the living,
so stop taking without giving
unless you want to chase every fight.”

And well I came back to Sydney,
to my small town type of living,
and shacked up with a girl for an age.

And now my minds simply scattered,
I can’t manage what I have gathered
i’m working behind a bar for small change.

And if my gratitude can be measured,
the horse it rode was never tethered
and it walked till it was worn in the hoof.
 
All my awkward advances,
seemed to blow all my chances
so i put away my strings and worn boots.
